Steel ropes
Technical characteristics


Private Joint-Stock Company "Production Association "STALKANAT-SILUR" produces about 2000 types of steel ropes by diameters from 0,5 mm up to 78,0 mm, various constructions and for different purposes.

The goods are applied in coal and metal mining industry, gas-and-oil producting industry, metallurgy, transport and agricultural mechanical engineering, construction industry, marine and river transport etc.

Technical characteristics of ropes are classified by;
- the construction;
- the application;
- the accuracy of manufacturing;
- the twisting level;
- the material of the core;
- the method of a laying and degree of steadiness;
- the combination of laying directions;
- the mechanical properties;
- the type of strands laying;
- the type of spiral ropes laying;
- the laying direction.

Steel ropes of the following types of strand laying are produced:
- TK-standard - construction of strand with pointwise contact of wires between layers;
- LK-design of strand with line contact of layers;
- PK-design of strand with strip contact of layers;
- TLK-construction of strand with pointwise and line contact of layers.

The ropes of the following construction are produced:
- spiral ropes - from round or shaped wires twisted on spiral in one or several concentric layers;
- double lay - from strands twisted in one or several concentric layers (round-stranded rope, shaped- stranded ropes);
- triple lay - from double lay ropes twisted in concentric layer.

Depending on method of laying the ropes are delivered:
- unlaying — the strands and wires in ropes do not save their position after removal the bandages;
- not unlaying — strands ropes, wires in strands save their position after removal the bandages and places of welding or can be twisted so that it was possible to return them in former position — H.

The ropes with the following balance extend degree of steadiness are produced:
- preformed — P;
- non-preformed.

The ropes with the following twisting extend level are produced:
- rotating;
- non-rotating.

The not unlaying preformed ropes have advantages and hold:
- flexibility due to removal of internal stresses by preforming (forming of wire strands which they get up in rope after laying);
- lack of any tendency of rope to break the straightness under elongation;
- more uniform in sharing the stretching force in rope on each strand and inside the strand — on each wire;
- capability of the greater number of bends on drums and blocks and smaller number of breaking the wires than usual ropes have for the same life time.
- with ability "not barbed" that excludes injuries and protects the surface of drums and blocks from damages.

Ropes are produced depending on the laying direction of outer lay:
- with the right hand lay;
- with the left hand lay.

Depending on the combination of strand and wire lay direction the following rope types are produced:
- cross rope laying (Ordinary lay);
- one side laying (Bang's lay).

Ordinary lay ropes have increased hardness but due to the structural strength (balance of lays) and sim¬plicity in operation they are widely used in many branches of a national economy.

Bang's lay ropes have large flexibility and their serviceability is 1.25 - 1.5 times better than serviceability of the crosslayed ropes. But last are not widely adopted, as they tend to unlaying.

The deformation of torsion can increase or reduce torsion of rope, depending on direction of rope laying, direction of rotation of receiving drum (clockwise or counterclockwise) and laying rope on drum (from right to left or from left to right), under drum or on drum.

According to GOST 3241-91 "Steel ropes steel. Technical specification" ropec are divided on marks BK, B and I dependingon mechanical properties of wire.

Steel wire ropes from galvanized wire depending on surfase mass of zinc are produced:
-acc. to GOST 7372, TU - for moderate working conditions (C), for hard working conditions (G), for extra-hard working conditions (OG):
- acc. to DIN 2078 - galvanized (noZn), hard galvanized (diZn);
- acc. to 2232- grade A and B
- acc. to10264- class A
- acc. to BS 2763 - class A, Z
- acc. to PR-W-410D - galvanized on the ready size (heavy galvanized), drawn galwanized wire (normally galvanized).

The possibility of ropes produktion depending on group of zinc coating is agreed in each separate case because of it depends on diameter and tensile strengt of rope.

The wire ropes depending on required breaking load of a rope as a whole are produced from a wire with a tensile strength 1370 -1960 N/mm2 (140 - 200 Kgf/mm).
